One of the masterpieces it played host to was the one produced by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, where India lost to Pakistan in the series decider in 1987. The stadium was only half-built then. It is home to legends of Indian cricket like GR Viswanath, Erapalli Prasanna, Syed Kirmani and more recently Anil Kumble. The stadium will always be remembered for the thrilling India-Pakistan quarter-final in the 1996 ICC Cricket World Cup – which also marked the installation of floodlights for the first time.One of India’s regular Test venues, the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium has also housed India’s National Cricket Academy since 2000 and is home to the Karnataka cricket team.
