Shivanasamudra Falls near Bangalore Karnataka

Shivanasamudra is a small island town in the Mandya district of Karnataka. It is 65 km east of Mysore and 120 km from Bangalore. Situated on the banks of the River Cauvery, the area is surrounded by forested hills and lush green valleys. More Information about Shivanasamudra Falls 

The river Kaveri tumbles grandly downward the Shivanasamudra Falls, also called the Shivasamudra Falls. The Shivanasamudra Falls has twin jumps, Gaganachukki and Bharachukki, one km away from each other. It is because to Kaveri river by itself splitting just a few kilometers towards the south into western as well as eastern branches. Both Gaganachukki as well as Bharachukki are a heaven for the nature lovers. It really is a panoramic landscape to view the river fall down from a top of 300-350 feet into a spray of mist. Relaxing on the nearby benches from the watch tower you are able to revel about the beauty that the cascading waterfalls offer.

Gaganachukki loacted on the left is a huge horsetail waterfall. The 90-metre waterfall on the river rushing through the huge boulders invite the travelers during July - August during the river Kabini too floods together with river Kaveri.

Bharachukki

Bharachukki located on the right is really a jagged roaring cascading waterfall. Bharachukki is situated a km towards the south-west of the Gaganachukki Falls. On the route to Bharachukki, you can find an ancient dargah located along the bank, that attracts numerous Muslims everyday to visit and worship. When compared with Gaganachukki, Bharachukki wears a more tranquil appearance, due to the steady sheet of water falling without many boulders hindering its route downward.


Asia's initial Hydro - electric project, established in 1902 by Sheshadri Ayyar, a dewan of Mysore could be noticed downstream to the water falls. From Shivanasamudra electricity was supplied to Bangalore, the very first city to get electricity in India - in 1906.

One Day Picnic Spots in Bangalore

Long time ago Bangalore was known throughout India as the garden city, liberal and progressive city. In recent years, these attributes have propelled Bangalore to the forefront of the development of high technology industry in India and is currently ranked as India's most developed city and one of the world's fastest growing urban areas.

Here are few picnic spots around Bangalore, ideal for one day picnic.

Mekedatu: The river kaveri squeezes through a narrow throat and deep in which a goat could leap. That's how Mekedatu takes its name. Only 3 miles from this spot is Sangam, the confluence of Kaveri and Arakavathi where there is a temple dedicated to Lord Sangameshwara. Mekedatu is located at a distance of 100 km from Bangalore city.



Muthathi: Muthathi is a small village on the bank of Kaveri. Muthathi is located at a distance of 35km from Malavalli. This is one of the fine picnic spots for nature lovers and anglers located at a distance of 80 km from Bangalore. The other attraction at Muthathi is Anjaneya temple. As per the legend, Sita, wife of lord Rama, lost her finger ring in this part of the river Kaveri and Hanuman twirled the river and found the ring.



Ramohalli: Ramohalli is located at a distance of 28 km from Bangalore. This serene picnic place has a sprawling 400 year old Banyan Tree, which covers an area of 4 hectares! It is called 'Dodda Alada Mara' in Kannada meaning Big Banyan Tree. The tree with its vertical root system is considered the biggest tree in Karnataka. The main trunk has given life to several roots and branches with lots of leaves. Branches jutting on all sides have slanted towards the ground.
 
Muthyala Maduvu (Pearl Valley): Muthyala Maduvu is located at a distance of 45 km from Bangalore. For those wishing to relax for a day, Muthyala Maduvu would be the ideal choice. Situated amidst hills, nestled in a valley, this secluded place makes a fascinating picnic spot.

The attraction of this place is the water falls, formed by streams trickle of water gushing from a height of 90 meters. These jets of water at the bottom give an impression of a pond of pearls - Muthyala Maduvu in Telugu. Muthyala means Pearl in Telugu Language. There is also a small temple dedicated to Shiva which adds a religious touch to this place.
