The foundation was laid on July 13, 1951 by Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India. But it was Kengal Hanumanthaiah who was mastermind in the revamp as well as speedy construction of Vidhana Soudha. For this, Kengal Hanumanthaiah visited Russia, Europe, United States & many places and got the concept of building Vidhana Soudha by incorporating a variety of styles from the structures he had viewed.Vidhana Soudha was completed in the year 1956. The chief engineer of Vidhan Soudha, B.R. Manickam mainly made use of granite to achieve the structure constructed. The profile of the frontal portion of Vidhana Soudha will witness a temporary transformation with underground work on the Metro project all set to commence. The bangalore Palace is located at Jayamahal Rd, Armane Nagar,Bangalore. The Palace was built in 1887 and built by Woodeyar Dynasty. The Palace is adorned with magnificent woodcarvings and Tudor-style architecture on the inside.Garrett had already built a mansion there in 1862 but Wadiyar wanted to redo it in the Tudor style. He started renovating it in April 1874, replicating Windsor Castle’s fortified towers, battlements and turrets complete with clinging ivy. Covering an area of 45,000 sq ft, most of the 35 rooms were bedrooms with small, compact restrooms. The renovation was completed in 1876 at a cost of Rs 1, 98,158.The palace holds resemblance to the medieval castles that were built in Normandy and England. Once surrounded by beautiful gardens, now the palace is not what it used to be. But, it still succeeds in attracting tourists.
The interiors were just as English. The furniture, which was neo-classical, Victorian and Edwardian in style, was designed by Lazarus & Company. And every detail of the Palace is testimony to the fact that the Wadiyars were truly connoisseurs of art and architecture , whether it was the painted and carved roofs above their heads or the intricate flooring with its multi-coloured motifs that they walked on. The upholstery, brass inlaid rosewood doors, stained glass windows, chandeliers made from Belgium crystal, paintings, hunting artifacts – everything was fit for a king.
Once surrounded by beautiful gardens, the palace has now lost much of its original charm. However, it still succeeds in attracting tourists. Fortified towers, Gothic windows, battlements and turrets lend a great degree of magnificence to the Bangalore Palace of India. Mainly constructed of wood, it boasts of splendid carvings and paintings. Today the palace serves as the venue for various exhibitions, concerts and cultural programs held in the city. The ground floor of the Bangalore Palace comprises of a massive open square.
Architecture of  Bangalore Palace

The architecture of the Palace is not just Tudor. It is also Victorian Gothic and was influenced by the architecture that one sees in Regency London. That type of architecture was popularised by John Nash between 1800 and 1820,” says Michael Ludgrove, the curator, Royal Collections, Bangalore Palace. Ludgrove believes that the Maharaja may have been inspired by pictures of Windsor Castle and that it is unlikely he actually visited the London landmark. The gardens were designed by famed German botanist Gustav Krumbiegel, the architect of Lalbagh and government botanist at London’s Kew Gardens. Plants were chosen carefully to ensure that there was colour all through the year.
The square is full of granite seats that are adorned with fluorescent blue ceramic tiles. Along with the courtyard is a ballroom, where private parties of the King used to be held. As we move to the first floor, the foremost thing that comes into view is an ornate room, known as the Durbar Hall. The King used this hall for addressing the assembly. Mounted on the hall is a colossal elephant head, while its walls are ornamented with exquisite paintings. One of the walls of the Durbar Hall has a set of windows that are decorated with stained glass.
History of Bangalore Palace
The Bangalore Palace is an imperial remnant of the bygone era. Located in Bangalore, India, this palace was built by Chamaraja Wodeyar, Maharaja of Mysore in 1887. Chamaraja Wodeyar visited England and was greatly inspired by the Windsor Castle in London. Keeping the Tudor style architecture of the Windsor Castle in mind Wodeyar built Bangalore Palace in India along similar lines.
Surrounded by beautiful gardens the Palace has towers with gothic windows, battlements and turrets. It is largely constructed of wood plus is known for its carving and paintings. The wonderful door panel at the entrance leads to grand interiors of the palace. Situated in the heart of the city, between Jayamahal and Sadashivanagar areas, this Palace is spread over 430 acres. The interiors of the Palace have sophisticatedly carved woodwork, breathtaking floral motifs, cornices and beautiful relief paintings on its ceilings. However the entry to the Palace is restricted you may just marvel at the exteriors of the monument.
This Palace is quite a fascinating place as it flaunts turreted parapets, battlements, fortified towers and arches. The magnificent royal grandeur of the Palace will leave you awe struck. The Tudor architecture surrounded by Indian urban scenery makes the whole thing worth exploring.
Today the Bangalore Palace belongs to the Mysore royal family and has also undergone many renovations. Various exhibitions, concerts and cultural programs are held in the Palace grounds from time to time.

When To Go To Bangalore Weather Condition

Bangalore has a fairly pleasant climate all round the year and a trip to the city can be planned according to your expediency. Summer in the city commences from early March, lasts up to the initial days in June, with temperatures ranging from 28 degrees C to 33 degrees C. Monsoon hits Bangalore in the months of mid June to early October, and is characterized by moderate rainfall to heavy showers. Winters in the city sets in during mid October and stretches up to January, with temperatures dipping below 20 degrees C to 15 degrees C.
Opting Your Favorite Season

If you prefer warm sunny weather, then the months between March to June summer is the best season to visit this place. Summers in Bangalore are not intolerable because of its higher elevation but the heat could leave your throats quite parched. So make sure to carry lot of fluids and dress in cotton fabrics while touring the city. But if you enjoy the monsoon and don’t mind being cajoled by the gentle dewdrops and caressed by the soft breeze, then you should visit the city during June and October. Winters in Bangalore can be compared to the summers of any hill station. The weather is cold and relatively enjoyable. If you like such climate then you should holiday in the city during mid October and January. Note that winters in Bangalore can be quite dry so make sure to carry a moisturizer to retain the oil levels in your skin.
October to February

The winter months in Bangalore are the best time to visit the city. It doesn't really get very cold with the lowest temperature dipping to about 10°C. With so many lakes and gardens to visit, sightseeing and outdoor activities are most comfortable at this time. You wouldn't need heavy woolens but carry a light jacket, especially for the nights, which tend to get chilly. This is also a good time to plan getaways from Bangalore since there are a number of tourist attractions just outside Bangalore.

March to May

While winters are over, the temperature is still pleasant. The maximum temperature doesn't usually cross 36°C even in the hottest months making it perfect for the summers as well.

June to September

Monsoons begin by the end of May and come with mild to heavy rainfall. August and September can see heavy showers but they are rarely continuous so you can still plan a trip without the rain becoming a dampener. Just carry an umbrella and a sturdy pair of shoes, and you are good to go.

This spacious Gothic church is built in the form of a cross, it started out as a thatched hut in the 17th century and was called the Chapel of Kanikkai Madha (Church of Our Lady of Presentation). St. Mary's basilica is 172-foot long and 50-foot broad, with a spire which is 160-foot high. The shrine outside the church also draws in the devotees. There is a 6-foot statue of Mother Mary holding baby Jesus in her arms. Mother Mary is draped in a different saree everyday, offered by devotees.
The Basilica has an imposing tower and gothic-style pointed arches. It was only in 1973 that Saint Marys Church of Bangalore was given the status of a Basilica, making it the sixth Basilica in India. The status was awarded through a Papal order by Pope John Paul VI. One of the major attractions of this basilica is the St Mary's Feast, held every year in the month of September. Devotees from far and wide come to Bangalore in September to attend this grand feast.

The formation of the city of  Bangalore and the formation of St. Mary’s Church are found to be interlinked with the history of  Karnataka.   During the 17th Century, few Christians came from Ginjee, of Tamil Nadu, found that the land was fertile to sow white rice and began to settle down and built a small village. This village took the name ‘Bili akki palli’ because it is said that the rice they cultivated was white and also because a number of white birds were found in those rice fields. The people in order to practice their religion built a thatched hut and named it as ‘CHAPEL OF KANIKKAI MADHA’. The Italian Jesuits of the Malabar Mission, were the founders of the Mysore Mission in the 17th Century, who were succeeded by the French Jesuits from Madura and Carnatic Missions in the 18th Century. In 1799, Fr. Jean Dubois came in lay dress with the English troops at the siege of Seringapatam and only when he said the Mass in the Church, people did recognize him as a Catholic Priest. When the Cantonment was established in Bangalore, the Christians, both Europeans and Indians attended the Mass said by Fr. Jean Dubois. In 1811, he built a small chapel with a residence for priests. Later on, Rev. Fr. Andreas an Indian priest from Pondicherry succeeded him and he expanded the Church building in the shape of Cross, with a hall facing East and West and with two aisles North and South.  In 1832, due to some communal riots, the church was pulled and pillaged.  Fr. Beauchaton, the Parish Priest, narrowly escaped death by the tactful handling of the situation by the Christian people.  Troops arrived to restore peace and the government had the Church guarded first by the European soldiers and later by Indian sepoys for many months.  After some years great plague had spread through out the Blackpalli and people sought the intercession of Mother Mary to relieve them from the clutches of disastrous death.  Mother Mary interceded the victims’ prayers and the plague vanished from the vicinity.  Since she cured the people from the dreadful disease and gave them good health, she was also called as ‘Annai Arokiamarie’ (Our Lady of Good Health). In June 1875, the construction of the present Church began. It was during the time of then Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. E.L. Kleiner, who later became the Bishop of Mysore.  In view of the historic importance of St. Mary’s Church, the then British authorities from Delhi paid a grant for the maintenance of the Church, every year till 1948. The present Church of St. Mary’s built by Rev. Fr. Kleiner was solemnly consecrated on 8th September 1882 by Msgr. Joannes Maria Y. Coadou, Vicar Apostolic of Mysore, in the presence of 35 priests and about 4000 Catholics of Bangalore.  It is interesting to note that, all the other parishes of Bangalore were born out of this ancient parish of St. Mary’s Church. It was during the tenure of Most. Rev. Dr. P. Arokiaswamy, the then Archbishop of Bangalore and Rev. Fr. Paul Kinatukara, then Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church, with the strenuous efforts of the Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. D.S. Lourdusamy, the then Secretary General for the Sacred Congregations for Evangelization of Peoples at Rome, Holy Father Pope Paul VI, elevated St. Mary’s Church to the title of  ‘ANNAI AROCKIAMARIE BASILICA’  (St. Mary’s Basilica) on 26th September 1973, which was officially announced and celebrated on 26th January 1974.  Since then, every year this day stands as a remarkable significance of God’s grace.  For several years, a grand car procession carrying the Eucharist was held and the Archbishop administered solemn blessing of the Blessed Sacrament. Due to an increase in the population, and more devotees flooding to visit the Shrine of Our Lady, the space that was available for the devotees to stand and pray was found to be very congested.  At this juncture, the then Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. T. Jabamalai, successor of Rev. Fr. Paul Kinatukara constructed a hall like structure facing east and placed the statue of Our Lady in a prominent place. This enabled thousands of devotees to see her without any hindrance and pray to her more devotedly. The statue of Infant Jesus was placed where the Our Lady’s statue remained originally. During the year 2004, a new exquisite altar with tabernacle was erected by Msgr. T. Jabamalai, Parish Priest, who was also then Vicar General of the Bangalore Archdiocese.  During the year 2005 – 2007, the church was completely renovated by him and was rededicated on 29th August 2006 by the present Archbishop of Bangalore. In the year 2007 (1882 - 2007) St. Mary’s Basilica celebrated the 125th year of its consecration. During the month of June 2007, the Church and Shrine was bifurcated and His Grace the Archbishop of Bangalore appointed Rev. Fr. A.S. Anthony Swamy as the Parish Priest and Rev. Fr. L. Arulappa as the Rector of the Shrine.  On 8th of September 2007, Annual feast day and birthday of Blessed Virgin Mary, His Grace the Archbishop officially declared and honoured this Basilica as the Diocesan Shrine
